What. A. Year.

A Letter from Giorgia

At the start of this school year, my intention was simple: write a monthly blog post to share my postpartum journey with you. Well… guess what? Life had other plans. Not a single post made it to the blog — until now. And suddenly, it’s Memorial Day weekend. How did we get here already?! #momlife — embrace the chaos, right?

So here we are, reflecting on what has truly been a wild, emotional, incredible roller coaster of a year. Let me catch you up.

Back to Work… at 5 Weeks Postpartum

After putting so much energy into hiring and training instructors so I could take a proper maternity leave, life threw its first curveball: I only managed to take 5 full weeks off. I could’ve shut the program down temporarily, but that just didn’t sit right with me. I wanted to show up — for you, for the GfM community — because I know what it means to have someone there to support you when you’re trying to show up for yourself.

So at 5 weeks postpartum, I returned to work. Mentally, I felt ready — I had our families from Italy supporting us, and my heart was full. But physically, my body said, “Hold up!” That’s when my pelvic floor physical therapist became my new best friend. Week after week, we worked through recovery. Some days, even simple movements were a stretch. I leaned into “Giorgia FitMom’s postpartum workouts”, right alongside many of you, slowly rebuilding strength and connection with my core.

From Postpartum to Performance: A Humbling Return

By the end of the fall quadrimester, I started dreaming about my own goals again. I followed a “Back to Run” plan from my PT, but... after a couple of runs, we had to stop. My right knee — which currently has no ACL, no PCL, and completely torn menisci — reminded me it needed more time. So we pivoted. I shifted focus to strength training and found my way back to CrossFit.

Winter goal? Compete in the CrossFit Open.

And I did.

Reality Check at the CrossFit Open

Competing in March gave me a beautiful hit of adrenaline I hadn’t felt in months. It was empowering. But during those workouts, I realized my diastasis recti (ab separation) still wasn’t healed enough for gymnastics and high-demand core movements. So, with support from two amazing Pelvic Floor PTs (one specializing in joints/bones and one in muscles), I scaled back and re-committed to rehabbing my core — again with the fitMom program as my guide.

Embracing the Athlete Within

There have been many ups and downs. But every time I looked in the mirror or struggled with a movement, I reminded myself: I’m just 7 months postpartum. I’ve got a lifetime of athleticism ahead of me. This is just one more challenge on the journey — and I’m here for it.

Two months into focused diastasis rehab, I went from a 3-fingers gap to just one. Progress! I’m still showing up at CrossFit, but instead of pull-ups or handstands, it’s dead bugs and core activation. And honestly? I feel strong.

Back to Running — This Time, It’s a Go

At 9 months postpartum, I attempted my second running trial. And it felt good. My knee now has a solid support system, and thanks to all the core work, my pubic pain is gone. I’m just one week away from running the Bolder Boulder 10K — and this time, I’m doing it with Leo, my 8-year-old. He’s aiming to beat his time from last year (55 mins — can you believe that?!) and shoot for under 50. I’ll be chasing him (probably finishing around 53 minutes myself), but I’m just so excited to be back in the game.

Still rehabbing a tight right side from psoas to calf with help from a dream team — 2 knee PTs, 1 PFPT, and 2 massage therapists. #ItTakesAVillage

Life at Home: The Real MVPs

Leo is about to finish 3rd grade — a math genius, kind soul, and all-around athlete (soccer, judo, basketball, skiing, running… you name it). He takes out the trash and helps Dad in the backyard. Proud mom moment? Every day.

Lily is about to graduate Kindergarten — our tiger. She’s fierce, strong, and so full of fire and curiosity. She’s got opinions (and eye rolls for days), but she’s starting to open up to discussions. Parenting her is a whole new level compared to Leo, and I know she’s going to change the world.

And Luna — our sweet 10-month-old bundle of joy. The best baby ever. At just 5 weeks old, when I returned to work, she started sleeping through the night — 8:30 pm to 7:30 am (I know, unreal + for first time mom that’s was not like that with Leo, at all!!). She’s crawling everywhere, squatting like a boss, has two teeth, and brings light to every moment.

This new version of working motherhood? It’s tough. I crash into bed at 8pm most nights. Leo and Lily now tuck me in. But my heart is so, so full.

GfM: Growth, Momentum, and Magic

Giorgia fitMindset had its biggest growth year ever.

  • Our online program stayed strong and consistent — helping so many busy moms carve time to show up for themselves.

  • In 1:1 settings, I’ve had the honor of witnessing amazing personal transformations.

  • The Prenatal-Postpartum Course is now fully under the GfM umbrella and thriving at Boulder CrossFit (more exciting in-person news coming soon!).

  • I've been teaching at CU Boulder, empowering young women and future personal trainers.

  • I co-created a Parenthood Support Group of local providers offering free resources to families.

  • I’ve taught Pelvic Core Fitness at Boulder Community Hospital, co-created Gather (a virtual guide for moms), and run workshops both online and locally in collaboration with other providers.

  • Every other Friday, I lead Mom Hikes (sign up \[here]!).

It’s been intense, amazing, and full of soul-filling moments.

What’s Next?

I’m working on slowing down just a little to recharge this summer. I also have three new certifications in the works to bring you even more tools and challenges next season.

Some of you wrote “whatever Giorgia says” under your goal-setting forms — HA! I love it. And don’t worry, I do have a plan for your summer. Give me a couple more weeks… I’ll share it soon!

Thank you for being part of this journey — for showing up, supporting one another, and continuing to inspire me every day.
