Reflections on my 2nd CrossFit Open

This year marked my second time facing the CrossFit Open, and if I’m being completely honest, I underestimated myself. I didn't even sign up for the official worldwide competition because I didn't think I’d perform at a high level.

Lesson learned: Never count yourself out.

Even without the official registration, my numbers told a story I wasn't expecting. My scores would have landed me in the Quarterfinals, meaning I’m among the top 25% (probably, even 10%) of fittest women globally. It’s a bittersweet realization, but it’s fueled a fire for next year!

The Workouts: Heart, Lungs, and a Gritty Knee

The adrenaline of the Open is unlike anything else.

  • 26.1: 225 reps RX of pure lung-burning effort. My torn knee held up and did its job through every jump and step-over.

  • 26.2: I went RX (90 reps) and surprised myself. I wasn't sure I had the Chest-to-Bars in me, but I didn't just do one, I did all 20 required reps.

  • 26.3: 197 reps RX. I felt like I was flying on the burpees, and while I was definitely "sucking air" on those thrusters, I pushed until the very last rep.

To My Fellow Moms: No Room for Guilt

I am writing all of this mainly for myself. It’s a reminder that I don’t have to feel guilty if I come back late after a 10-hour workday because I stopped for a 6:15 PM workout on my way home.

I’m not sharing this to brag; compared to what I was trying to achieve back in my Judo days, this is just a different chapter. I’m sharing it because this is what I love and I am sure you love other stuff but I want to be an example that you can prioritize yourself.

Whether you have three kids or run your own business, it is still possible to be active, take care of your body, and have fun. I get asked every day, "How do you do it?" and my answer is always "I don't know." But I look at the women in my program, and I see them doing it every single day. It’s not easy, but every mom has her own passion, and we need to fight and organize our lives to keep that fire alive.

Join the GfM Community: Next Stop, BolderBoulder!

The Open is over, but the "GiorgiafitMindset" momentum is just beginning. We are moving from the barbell to the pavement!

I am officially calling all moms to join me for the BolderBoulder 10k. My goal? To get our community across that finish line with a SUB 1-hour time. Here is how to get involved:

  1. Register for the GfM Running Club: We start training next week!

  2. Sign up for BolderBoulder: Make sure to join the GiorgiafitMindset team when you register.

Thank you to the coaches and community at Boulder CrossFit for pushing me past my limits. Now, let’s lace up those running shoes and show Boulder what this community of moms can do!
